An apprentice is an employee so have a contract of employment, paid holiday leave and all associated benefits. An apprentice is exposed to the opportunities of a profession which interests them underpinned with off the job training and assessment.

Salaries can vary by role and location, with some starting at around £9,000 per year and with yearly increments can double that during an Apprenticeship. A survey carried out in 2018 found that the average UK (qualified) engineer’s wage was £47,896.

The appeal for most apprentices is the debt-free route to a qualification. Your salary helps to fund your lifestyle while you learn, but the real value of an apprenticeship is your personal development and future potential earnings.
